Vaughn Stafford

Lead Pastor

Vaughn was born in Livingston, AL, and lived in Eufaula, AL in his early years, but grew up primarily in Anderson, IN. He received degrees in accounting and vocal performance from Anderson University. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Seminary and plans to complete his doctoral studies at Asbury in May of 2023.

Vaughn began singing at Gaither Studios when he was just twelve years old and sang there until he began ministry at age 25. Vaughn’s call to full-time ministry came while he was touring. He has been serving Clearbranch as Lead Pastor since June of 2013. He is passionate about people growing in a personal relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord and creating worship experiences that invite people to encounter the living God. He believes that our calling is to help bring the kingdom of God on earth as in Heaven and to further the cause of Christ to the ends of the earth. He lives by the mantra of “living life above reproach, but never beyond approach.”

Vaughn married his love, Cindy, in April 1997 and they have two children. Their son, William, will graduate from Trussville High school in May of 2023. The daughter, Ellie, is a 2nd grade school teacher, wife, and mother of Vaughn and Cindy’s two amazing grand children, Dak and Emmie. Vaughn enjoys fishing, playing golf, tennis, and most any other sports, and loves spending time with his family and friends.

Jeremy Auvil

Associate Pastor

Jeremy Auvil grew up in Montgomery and Tuscaloosa, AL and graduated from The University of Alabama in 2001.  He and his family (Jenny, James, and John) moved to Trussville in 2004.  Over the past 12 years Jeremy has worked in numerous positions within NAC Methodist Churches including a decade of Student Ministry.  In 2016 he completed the requirements to become a licensed local pastor.  Jeremy loves preaching and encouraging others to develop authentic relationships with God and others.

Jeremy is a recent addition to the Clearbranch Family and his primary focus is Young Adult Ministries and Small Groups.

You can also catch Jeremy on Sunday Nights at Crosshaven (a ministry of Clearbranch UMC) that meets in our youth space at 5pm.  This service is focused on reaching young adults and families that have become disenfranchised with the modern church as well as those who are un-churched.  Check out this deconstructed and very relaxed service on Facebook by clicking here.

David Shelton

Executive Pastor

Executive Minister: David began attending Clearbranch in 2002 and joined the staff as Executive Minister in 2012. He is a graduate of Mid-South Christian College in Memphis, TN.

Although his education is in ministry, David has a wide and varied background in ministry and business. He worked for nearly 20 years in steel fabrication, 8 years in hospice management, and has also served as a pastor for a church in Arkansas. He has a heart for teaching, problem-solving, and helping others to reach their potential.

David and his lovely wife Beverly, have two adult sons and two beautiful daughters-in-law. He enjoys playing guitar, singing, and traveling with Beverly.

Micah Shelton

Minister of Worship Arts

Micah grew up in the Birmingham area and currently lives with his wife Hannah and two dogs Maverick and Goose in Leeds. He has served Birmingham churches in several roles, but Micah’s calling and passion is helping people to connect with the spirit of God through music and the arts. In his free time Micah enjoys being outside, spending time with family, and blowing the budget on eating out. He came on board in 2019 and is grateful to call Clearbranch his home.

Mark Harvard

Minister of Communications and Online Campus

Mark Harvard grew up in Sylacauga, AL and got a degree in Communications from the University of Alabama.  Through most of his adult life, Mark has worked in a mix of communications and ministry and has a passion for helping to spread the word about things that really matter.  Mark and his wife, Ginny, fell in love with Clearbranch the first time they visited and are pleased to have this be the church in which their son, Jack, will grow up.

Melanie Schuler

Minister to Children and Families

Melanie and her family have been a part of Clearbranch since 2008, and she joined the Clearbranch staff in spring of 2017.  Melanie is married to Jake, who is a restaurant manager in Birmingham. They have two children, Isaac and Anna Kate, both who attend St. Clair County High School, play soccer, and are involved in several other activities.

Melanie grew up in Hokes Bluff, AL and graduated from Hokes Bluff High School and Jacksonville State University.  Before joining the Clearbranch staff, she spent her previous career in retail management for McRae’s and Macy’s Department Stores.  Melanie is thrilled to now be a part of the Clearbranch family, leading our children’s ministry.

Heather Harlow

Children's Ministry Assistant

Our Children’s Ministry Assistant, Heather Harlow grew up in Alabaster, AL and recently moved to Ashville with her family. They quickly fell in love with the Clearbranch family after a few visits and knew this was their new home. Heather studied psychology at UAB, cosmetology at Paul Mitchell, and previously served as Children’s Minister at Calera UMC. She loves helping others, using her creative gifts, and sharing Jesus’ love with those around her. Heather and her husband, Matt, have been married since 2008 and have one biological daughter, Layla Noelle, who plays sports at Ashville. They are also a host family to foreign exchange students and have six bonus daughters from across the world who have lived with them from four months to eleven months for an American high school experience. Heather enjoys time together with her family and their two German Shepherds, watching Layla play sports, catching up with their bonus daughters over FaceTime, and soaking up the beauty of nature.

Donna Dexter

Pastoral Assistant

Donna is originally from Mississippi. She moved to Alabama in 1990. She has been on staff since 2006 and has had many roles. When she is not working, she loves to travel and spend time with her grandchildren.

Denise Heath

Director of Clearly Kids Academy

Denise came to Clearbranch in February 1999 as Director of Preschool Ministries. She started Clearly Kids Christian Academy in the Fall of that year.

Denise and her family are from San Antonio, TX. She married her high school sweetheart in 1984. Tommy and Denise have three married children, Tyler is a golf pro, Holly is a nurse practitioner, and Kasey is a teacher. Tommy and Denise have one grandbaby (#shesperfect) that was born in March of 2017!

Denise has a deep passion for loving kids and it shows in her ministry efforts. She is in the process of learning to play golf and loves to travel.

Kim Mayes

Clearly Kids Assistant Director

Kim and her family became members of Clearbranch in 2004.  Shortly after that Kim joined the Clearly Kids team as an administrative assistant.  Since Kim’s hire in 2005 she has assisted in the organization of several children’s events at the church.  Kim married Jason, her high school sweetheart, in 1992.  They lived in Norfolk, Virginia for 2 years while Jason served in the Navy.  They have two children, Blake and Savannah, who are both highly involved in their school sports.

Kim and Jason enjoy their weekly date nights at their favorite Mexican restaurant.

Chuck Whitten

Custodial Staff

Chuck has been employed by Clearbranch since January of 2006. Almost all aspects of keeping a clean and functional facility are taken care of by him. Having seen several ministerial staff changes Chuck feels blessed to be working with the staff that is current at Clearbranch. This team offers biblical guidance to him on a daily basis. He met his wife, Margie at a small group at Clearbranch. They married in May of 2007. Attending service on almost all Sundays helps him become closer to our Savior. Through services offered by Vaughn and his Godly staff.

Crystal Bauman

Parish Nurse

Crystal Cartwright Bauman was born and raised in Whiteville, Tennessee in a family of eleven. She graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis and began a career in nursing at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center. She is married to Paul Bauman. They have lived in the states of Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan and Wisconsin during their careers, but chose to retire in Springville to live near family. Other Clearbranch family includes daughter, Audrey Young and her family, Neil, Peyton and Emma. Her son, Benjamin Stack lives in Birmingham. She will serve as a volunteer Parish Nurse here at Clearbranch and prays to build a team of people who will serve others by integrating faith and health.

Areas of nursing she has experienced beside pediatrics are dialysis, oncology, dermatology, hospice and now school nursing. She also taught Health Science for twelve years in Eufaula, AL and coached tennis, basketball, cross country and cheer.

She loves learning more and more about Jesus through Bible study and has been in a Precepts study for the last two years. She and Paul co-teach a small group with the Underwoods. Her spiritual gift is compassion and she has been blessed to serve on several international mission trips. This year she and Paul will be going to India.

She and Paul are tennis partners and enjoy watching sports together. They yell “War Eagle!”

Richard Coggins

Director of Food Services

Richard was born and raised in the western section of Birmingham and went to Minor High School.  He was drafted into the Army in 1965 where he served for two years.  He retired from US Pipe in 2009 after nearly 40 years.  Richard started attending Clearbranch in 2002 and has been serving in the kitchen for 17 years.  he became our kitchen manager in 2016.  Richard is married to his wife, Judy and they have four adult children as well as three amazing grandchildren.

Addie Smith

Student Ministry Intern

Addie lives in Trussville and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 2020. She is currently pursuing an associates degree in Psychology from Jefferson State. Addie grew up in the student ministry here at Clearbranch and loves being able to work with the students now. When she is not corralling middle schoolers she likes to spend time with her family and friends.
